Dalhousie, a prominent hill station in Himachal Pradesh, is noted for its natural beauty and pleasant environment.Dalhousie is located in Chamba at an elevation of around 2,000 metres.The hill station is situated at the western end of the Dhauladhar range of mountains.
Dalhousie is named after its founder, Lord Dalhousie, the British Governor General in India, and is surrounded by spectacular snowcapped mountains. This hill station’s Victorian-style residences, Scottish architecture, and colonial buildings transport visitors back in time. The region has a few tiny churches.
Dalhousie covers an area of 14 square kilometres and contains five hills: Balun, Bakrota, Tehra, Patreyn, and Kathlog. The mountains’ slopes are covered in fragrant pines, oaks, rhododendrons, and oaks, as well as various other types of trees. The attractive hill station is framed by the Ravi River, which flows at the town’s base. Dalhousie is a popular honeymoon destination.
Dalhousie also provides a wonderful view of the famous snow-capped Pir Panjal mountain range in Jammu and Kashmir, Sach Pass, and Chamba’s Pangi Valley. Lohali hamlet, Kalatop, Dainkund peak, Bakrota hills, and Tibetan market are just a few of the many tourist attractions in this beautiful hill station. The lovely valley of Khajiar is also quite popular among travellers.

Dainkund is the tallest peak, at an elevation of 2755 metres. Tourists enjoy the area’s picturesque splendour. It also provides a panoramic view of the entire valley. The hill was given the term “singing hill” because when the wind blows through the forests, it produces a melodic sound. The hill contains a temple dedicated to Pholani Devi. According to folklore, Dainkund (Dain means witch and kund means lake in Hindi) was originally the home of a witch. Pholani Devi, a manifestation of Goddess Kali, murdered the witch by rising from a stone near where the temple now stands. The temple’s most noteworthy feature is the trident that is found inside.
The hilltop houses an Indian Air Force facility. This lovely summit is very popular with hikers. The Dainkund hike provides a panoramic view of the Dhauldhar Mountain Ranges. Dainkund is one of Dalhousie’s most popular tourist destinations, thanks to its colourful wildflowers, deep deodar forest, and Khajjiar Lake.
SUBHASH BAOLI
Subhash Baoli, located approximately one kilometre from Dalhousie, is named after the well-known liberation fighter Subhash Chandra Bose. Subash Chandra Bose visited this perennial spring in 1937 while recuperating from illness. He spent seven months in Dalhousie, drinking spring water on a regular basis. It is reported that the water’s medicinal properties healed him of the fatal condition.
Subhash Baoli is one of Dalhousie’s most prominent tourist attractions, recognised for its beautiful beauty. This spring, with its pine trees and snow-covered mountains, is ideal for picnics. You can walk through the woods, meditate, or take a bath in the spring water; this spot will soothe and quiet you. The area is studded with dhabas, tea stalls, and fast food restaurants serving drinks and local cuisine.
PANCH PULA
Panch Pula, which means five bridges in Hindi, is approximately 3 kilometres from Dalhousie. It is one of the most popular and picturesque locations in the area. Panch Pula, known for its rushing streams and waterfalls, is an excellent picnic destination. These streams and waterfalls provide the majority of water to the nearby communities. Several pools in Panch Pula are fed by the streams and waterfalls that flow here. The Samadhi, a monument dedicated to freedom hero Sardar Ajith Singh, is a popular tourist site in the region.
